古くはプリンスやアーサー・ラッセル、現代ではフライング・ロータスやデイデラスなどに代表される、時に暴力的なまでの折衷主義を本作は確実に継承している。海外諸国でのリリースを経て作られたTOMC『Yesternow Once Now』は古今東西のレコードのみならず、日常生活における環境音や即興のセッション音源、自らの唄声や友人との他愛ない会話をも0コンマ単位でチョップし、コラージュの厚塗りへと長い時間をかけ置き換えている。
アヴァンギャルドな即興演奏シーンをルーツに持つTOMCのエディットワークは自身の快楽に忠実に遂行され、楽曲を根本から破壊するような大胆な編集もためらうことがない。またフューチャー・ジャズやトラップ～グリッチ、オルタナティヴR&B、インダストリアルなど多様な要素を含みながらも本作がどのジャンルに落ち着くことがないのはこの姿勢によるものが大きく、本作は潔癖・ハイファイな方向に向かいがちなコラージュ・ミュージックの世界に一石を投じる、猥雑かつ限りなくカラフルな魅力に溢れている。

This work inherits an at times even violent eclecticism in the spirit of old greats such as Prince and Arthur Russell as well as new greats including Flying Lotus and Daedelus.

TOMC’s “Yesternow Once Now” was created after a period of multiple overseas releases and the experiences learned from them. It combines not only past, present and East-meets-West but also samples from everyday life environments and an impressive archive of improv session recordings to boot. Add to this TOMC’s own vocals and snippets of candid conversations enjoyed with friends and you are well on your way to a sumptuous collage painted in broad, generous strokes that only gradually reveal themselves and the overall picture over time.

With his roots in the avant-garde improv scene, TOMC carries out his editing work faithfully and entirely to his own tune, editing, stripping away, and even entirely destroying musical foundations without the slightest hesitation. It is this approach to his works that means TOMC never settles down in any one genre, instead borrowing from diverse elements spanning anything from future jazz, trap and glitch to alternative R&B and industrial. In doing so, he is able to pursue a uniquely clean and perfectionistic “hi-fi” bent that is at once obsessive, vulgar, and infinitely colorful in its charm—a new, effortless force to be reckoned with in the world of collage music.

眼前では種々様々の部品が、それぞれの時間で役割を全うするために稼働している。
しかしそれらをいざ遠くから眺めると、途端に噛み合った構造物が浮かび上がるという不可思議。
それはさながら、個々による個々の生活が巨大な蠢きを生み出す都市のようだとも言えよう。
奇しくも筆者と同じくメキシコのPIRA.MD RECORDSを経由し、
フリーソフトによるサンプリング主体というごく近い手法をとりながら、
ここまで未来的･機械的･立体的な世界を描き出す手腕には驚くばかりである。
より多くの人の生活に、閃きを与える刺激となりますように。

プロデューサー・ビートメイカー・DJ。
即興演奏者およびディスコDJとしてキャリアをスタートし、その後ビートメイカーとしてメキシコ PIRA.MD Records、ポルトガル MiMi Records など海外諸国からアルバム・EPをリリース。近年ではアルバム ‘Yesternow Once Now’ (2017) 、EP ‘Blockchainers’ (2019) 等を日本の電子音楽レーベル PURRE GOOHN より発表している。
古今東西の楽曲スタイルに都市の環境音や日常の生活音を交え、2010年代以降のビートミュージックの方法論に基づき完成される多層的・折衷主義的な作風で知られる。
エッジーな音楽性の一方で非常に柔軟な活動方針を標榜しており、企業委嘱による作品制作やオフィスビル～ハッカソン等での長時間DJプレイのほか、レコードコンビニをはじめとする東東京の新興クリエイティブシーンとの多種多様な交流でも知られる。

TOMC embarked on his music career first as an improv artist and disco DJ, before going on to release albums and EPs as a beatmaker on PIRA.MD Records (Mexico) and MiMi Records (Portugal) and several overseas countries. In recent years he have released LP ‘Yesternow Once Now’ (2017), and EP ‘Bake The House’ (2018) from PURRE GOOHN.
He is renowned for his eclectic, genre-defying plunderphonics / sampledelia music, blending post-2010s beat methodology with all ages music styles around the world and environmental sounds of urban city life.
He continues to expand his range in roles, such as a commissioned creator from enterprises, a marathon DJ at public spaces (e.g., office buildings, hackathons and so on), and he’s known as a key person of the emerging creative scene of East Tokyo including ‘record conveni’.
